How to File a Takedown Notice

To submit a valid DMCA takedown notice, send a written communication containing all of the following:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature as the copyright owner or authorized agent
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed (or a representative list if multiple works are covered by a single notification)
  3. Identification of the material on DCZ that you claim is infringing, with enough detail for us to locate it (e.g., the specific URL)
  4. Your contact information: name, address, telephone number, and email address
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
  6. A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notification is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the copyright owner's behalf

Note on Non-Consensual Intimate Images: If your complaint involves the unauthorized posting of intimate images of yourself (regardless of copyright), you may also use this process. Include a statement that you did not consent to the content being posted on DCZ.

What Happens After You File

  • We will review your notice within 3 business days
  • If the notice is valid, we will remove or disable access to the infringing content
  • We will notify the member who posted the content (without revealing your personal information)
  • Repeat infringers will have their accounts terminated

Counter-Notification

If you believe your content was removed in error, you may submit a counter-notification to our Designated Copyright Agent containing:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature
  2. Identification of the material that was removed and where it appeared before removal
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed by mistake or misidentification
  4. Your name, address, telephone number, and email address
  5. A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for your judicial district, and that you will accept service of process from the party who filed the original takedown notice

If a valid counter-notification is received, DCZ may restore the removed content after 10–14 business days unless the original complainant files a court action.

Repeat Infringer Policy

DCZ will terminate the accounts of users who are found to be repeat infringers. An account may be designated a repeat infringer after two or more valid DMCA notices have been received regarding content they uploaded.

Misuse Warning

Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that material is infringing, or that material was removed by mistake or misidentification, may be liable for damages. Do not submit a takedown notice if you are not sure the material infringes your copyright.
